Veterinary education is becoming increasingly global-based, with international collaboration in accreditation, benchmarking and curriculum renewal processes. To facilitate and support these initiatives, the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) has established the Council for International Veterinary Medical Education (CIVME) (http://aavmc.org/civme.aspx). CIVME is comprised of a representative from each of the seven major global regions (Australasia, North America, South America, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia) with a role to engage and support veterinary educators throughout the world. CIVME met for the first time at the AAVMC meeting in Washington (March, 2016) and have defined a Terms of Reference and a Vision for the first five years. Initial outcomes have been to establish funding for veterinary education initiatives and to map the schools in each region to insure equitable representation. A regular newsletter is providing updates and a tool for international connectivity. This presentation will describe CIVME and detail its role in further detail, plus invite veterinary educators throughout Australasia to become involved.
